Art Basel 2026 by taxi from Neuchâtel: cost and logistics

Art Basel is the world's most prestigious contemporary art fair, attracting collectors, curators and art enthusiasts from across the globe to Messe Basel each June. From Neuchâtel, the journey is barely 60 km — close enough for a day trip, but complex enough that transport planning makes all the difference.

Art Basel 2026: key dates

Art Basel 2026 is scheduled from Tuesday 16 to Sunday 21 June at Messe Basel. Preview days (by invitation and special ticket) open on 16–17 June, while the general public days run from Thursday 18 June. The fair closes at 20:00 on most days and at 18:00 on Sunday.

Basel also hosts satellite fairs and gallery openings across the week. If you plan to attend more than one event, a flexible transport arrangement is essential.

Getting from Neuchâtel to Basel

Basel is approximately 60 km north-east of Neuchâtel, reached via the A5 motorway through Biel/Bienne and then the A6 towards Basel. The journey takes 50–60 minutes in normal traffic.

During Art Basel week, Basel itself experiences significant traffic congestion around Messe Basel, particularly in the morning (09:00–11:00) and late afternoon (17:00–20:00). A taxi driver who knows the drop-off routes near Hall 1 and Hall 2 entrances will save you considerable time.

Why choose a taxi over the train?

  • Direct door-to-door service from your home or hotel in Neuchâtel
  • No changes or connections at Biel/Bienne or Basel SBB
  • Ideal for carrying catalogues, art purchases or personal items
  • Return at your own pace — no fixed train schedule to worry about
  • VIP and business-class vehicle options available for client entertainment

Fares and cost breakdown

A one-way taxi from Neuchâtel city centre to Messe Basel costs approximately CHF 250–280 depending on exact departure point and traffic. For the return journey, if booked in advance with AàZ Taxicab, the same rate applies.

For a group of three or four people, the cost per person (CHF 65–70 each way) is often competitive with the train once you factor in Basel public transport, taxi queues at Basel SBB, and the flexibility of departure time. For business clients, the journey is billable as a corporate transfer.

Planning your Art Basel day

  • Book your taxi for a morning departure (08:30–09:00) to arrive before peak crowds.
  • Plan your return time — the fair closes at 20:00; booking a 19:30 pick-up near Hall 2 avoids the post-closing rush.
  • If you are attending gallery dinners or satellite events in the evening, we can arrange a later return.
  • For multi-day visits, we can arrange daily transfers at a pre-agreed schedule.

Prestige vehicle option

Art Basel attracts an international clientele, and the context sometimes calls for a more discreet, prestige vehicle. AàZ Taxicab offers executive saloon options for client transfers, gallery VIP pick-ups or personal comfort on longer journeys. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
