Paléo Festival (Nyon): getting there from Neuchâtel by taxi

Paléo is Switzerland's largest open-air music festival — six days in Nyon that draw over 230,000 visitors to see some of the world's biggest artists. From Neuchâtel, it is a 45-minute drive — close enough for a day trip, but late enough in the evening that getting home safely requires a plan. Here is how to make it work.

Paléo Festival 2026 essentials

Paléo Festival 2026 runs from Tuesday 21 to Sunday 26 July at the Plaine de l'Asse in Nyon, on the shores of Lake Geneva. The line-up typically spans rock, pop, world music and electronica across six stages. Each evening's headliner takes the Grande Scène from around 22:00, wrapping up between midnight and 01:00.

The festival is not camping-only — many day visitors attend, especially from the Vaud, Geneva and Neuchâtel regions. Day tickets give full access from afternoon until the end of the night programme.

The Neuchâtel-to-Nyon journey

Nyon is approximately 45 km south-west of Neuchâtel, reached via the A5 towards Yverdon-les-Bains and then the A1 along the lake. In normal traffic the journey takes 40–50 minutes. However, on Paléo weekends — especially Thursday, Friday and Saturday — the motorway and local roads around Nyon can be significantly congested from late afternoon onwards.

Taxi vs. train for Paléo

  • The train Neuchâtel–Nyon requires a change at Yverdon or Lausanne and takes 1h10–1h30.
  • Festival trains are heavily overcrowded, particularly for late-night returns.
  • A taxi is direct, comfortable, and you control the departure time.
  • For groups of 3–4, the per-person cost is competitive with the train.

Fares and booking

A one-way taxi from Neuchâtel to the Paléo site costs approximately CHF 185–210 at the standard T1 day rate. Night returns (after 20:00) apply the T2 rate: expect CHF 195–225 for a midnight departure from Nyon.

For a group of four, that is CHF 48–55 per person each way — similar to a train ticket and far more comfortable.

Planning your Paléo night

  • Book your return taxi before you leave Neuchâtel — do not rely on availability at midnight from Nyon.
  • Agree a pick-up location with your driver in advance: the main festival exit is chaotic; a street 5 minutes' walk away is much better.
  • Give yourself a 10-minute buffer after the headliner ends before calling your driver.
  • If you plan to stay until the very end of the night programme, confirm this with us — we will plan accordingly.

Attending multiple days

If you are going to Paléo on several days, consider coordinating a shared taxi with friends each time. This keeps costs manageable and means you always have a confirmed ride home — a major advantage on the busiest festival nights.
